NAMPA — Nampa salon owner and stylist Danae Valle said she was shocked Saturday to hear she was named "Idaho Business Woman of the Year — Up-and-Coming."
"It's taken a lot of effort," she said. "We have struggled. We survived, and now we have a stronger business."
Valle choked back tears as she talked to the Idaho Press-Tribune about being nominated for the award. She said she was going through a tough time and wondered if she was really making a difference and doing something good with her work.
The National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) presented four awards Saturday in their seventh annual appreciation of Idaho business women who exemplify excellence in business accomplishments, employee development, achievement, community leadership and advocacy for women professionals, company officials said.
Other recipients were:
Jennifer Zung, Driggs — Business Woman of the Year
Toni Nielsen, Boise — Trail Blazer
Christine Nicholas, Boise — Leadership
According to company literature, the resounding effects of women business owners makes it the fastest growing segment of America's business.
A conversation with Danae Valle, Idaho Up-and-Coming Business Woman of the Year
Q. What does this award mean to you?
A. It got me to stop and go back to my journal and reflect on the things that have happened this year. It made me happy I stayed true to the things I valued the most. Its like an affirmation that these things really work. I've learned that there are only so many hours in the day, and I've learned to have faith and that many wonderful people come into your life when you need it.
Q. What sets your establishment apart from others?
A. We color and cut in a totally different way. People notice and business grows by word of mouth.
We've worked really hard to have a certain environment. We want to make sure our staff has the background to be successful, not only in their hair skills but also in their people skills and their business skills.
"I can't even tell you how bad I was hurting when they nominated me," she said. "This award was something I needed .. somebody just realizing that you are trying and that you are doing something right."
Valle opened Studio D in November in Nampa after she outgrew her modest home operation with its 3,800-customer base. The salon now boasts a staff of 14 people and has expanded its client base to 7,300.
Valle credits much of her salon's success to a business plan that focuses on goal setting and staff development.
Valle is also involved in the community and organized last spring's "Touch One Life" spring style show extravaganza, which raised more than $6,000 to support Advocates Against Family Violence. She has made plans for a repeat event that will be held at 7 p.m. May 14 at the Nampa Civic Center.
Valle said when she grew out of her home business she was concerned she wouldn't have the same personal relationships with her clients.
"It was sad for me, but I can say that it has been better than I ever imagined and we are able to make a difference in our community," she said.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

THIS 15TH DAY OF JANUARY MARKS THE 15TH YEAR THAT
JOHN & I HAVE BEEN MARRIED!!!
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY JOHN!
I LOVE YOU!!!
Today I have been doing a little reminiscing.......
Here is our engagement picture - Fall 1993 Here we are at the Boise, Idaho Temple
the morning of January 15th, 1994.
Here we are later that evening at our reception....
cutting the cake.

I had fun scanning all these photos into our computer today. A couple of years ago I looked into having someone take all the negatives from our wedding photos and preserving them onto a disk. They told me that the negatives were already in pretty bad shape - and that it wouldn't work very well. I was surprised- since they had been sitting in an undisturbed envelope for those 13 years. SO, Anyway - I must admit - that even though the quality of these photos is not perfect- they turned out so much better than I expected - and I am SO happy to add them to our collection of photos on our computer!!!

Just in case you want to see more.......................

...........these are for you John XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX
